What is artificial intelligence?
Artificial intelligence (AI) is a type of technology that allows computers to imitate human cognitive processes like learning, reasoning, decision-making, creativity, and more. Through a method called deep learning, artificial neural networks based on the human brain are used to train computers to perform specific tasks.
Example: Our company uses an AI system to provide suggested responses to common customer questions based on our training data.
Within the broader field of AI, natural language processing (NLP) leverages machine learning to empower computer systems to understand prompts and respond to them in human language. Natural language processing is often used for speech recognition and can be found in many popular AI tools today, such as chatbots.
Different types of AI systems
AI technology is typically divided into three categories: narrow AI systems, which can only perform tasks that are highly specific; reactive machines, whose sole ability is to react to stimuli; and limited memory AI, which can learn from knowledge and make predictions based on it.
Within narrow AI models, generative AI systems enable the creation of different types of content, including text, images, sound, and videos.
