What is corporate training?

Corporate training is an organized effort to educate employees through skill-building and knowledge-boosting opportunities. It is also referred to as workplace training, workplace learning, and corporate education. Examples of corporate training programs include orientation training, role-specific training (e.g. customer service training), compliance training, and more.

Example: Employee development is a huge focus across the organization. Our corporate training program offers opportunities for team members to grow their skills in key areas, from technical training to soft skills.

Benefits of corporate training programs

Corporate training programs can offer a variety of benefits for both employers and employees. Workers who participate in skills training may see increased professional development and career growth opportunities.

Employers, meanwhile, benefit from more productive and effective employees, leading to increased return on investment (ROI) for the business. They may also see greater employee retention rates, helping offset hiring costs and boosting company culture and morale.

Employee training may also be used to meet certain legal or compliance requirements.

Best practices for corporate training initiatives

To create a successful corporate training program, it’s key to invest in the proper tools. Course authoring tools and distribution systems like learning management systems can help streamline your training efforts and allow you to track learners’ progress over time.

Before creating a single course, align with key stakeholders on goals you want to accomplish through your training program, and map out your training objectives with company KPIs. Tailor your training content to different roles when needed. For example, leadership training programs may require a different tone and examples than programs for training individual contributors.

Additionally, make training flexible so it fits seamlessly into learners’ schedules. For example, ensure that workers in the field can complete on-the-job training from their mobile devices to increase participation.
