What is generative AI?

Generative AI, or generative artificial intelligence, is a type of artificial intelligence that can create a variety of different types of content and data, including text, images, and video. Typically, generative AI tools generate content after receiving text prompts and rely on large language models (LLMs) for their natural language processing capabilities. Within the broader category of AI, generative models fall under the category of narrow AI systems, which can only perform highly specific tasks.

Example: We use generative AI frequently in our work, particularly image generation tools to add custom visual elements to presentations.

In recent years, generative AI systems have become increasingly popular—particularly text generation tools like chatbots, as well as image generation and video generation tools.
