What is scenario-based learning?
Scenario-based learning is a type of interactive e-learning where learners can build their skills by practicing realistic scenarios in a low-risk environment. Typically, a relevant challenge or storyline will be presented to the learner, as well as several choices for the learner to respond to the challenge. Once the learner makes a choice, feedback is then presented as the consequences of the choice.
Example: Our company takes compliance training seriously. Part of our annual training includes scenario-based learning where we act out real-life scenarios that deal with ethics in our industry.
A form of active learning, scenario-based training requires learners to make choices and interact with the course material. This learning process can help participants improve their knowledge retention and allow them to practice their critical thinking skills. E-learning branching scenarios are an excellent strategy for incorporating scenario-based learning into online courses.
