What is virtual training?
Virtual training, also referred to as online training or web-based training, is training that takes place online rather than in a traditional classroom setting. Virtual training can be created for a variety of different purposes, including remote learning options for schools and universities, opportunities for building new skills in the workplace, and more.
Example: To help with our goal of increasing customer engagement, I took part in a virtual training on social media best practices.
What are the different types of virtual training programs?
Just like in-person training, virtual training can vary greatly depending on the needs of the learning audience. One element in particular that can diverge is the pacing of the program. For example, virtual, instructor-led training is typically synchronous, while virtual, self-paced learning programs are asynchronous.
Some virtual training programs may utilize a virtual classroom or simulated environment to mimic the setting of an in-person classroom.
Best practices for creating a virtual learning environment
To create virtual training that inspires your learning audience and promotes real learning outcomes, it can be helpful to consider virtual training solutions. Also known as virtual training platforms or e-learning platforms, these tools streamline the course creation and distribution process, making it easier and faster to deliver great online learning experiences.
When considering a virtual training platform, be sure to select one with options for interactivity, as this can help increase knowledge retention and lead to more successful learning outcomes. Make space for peer learning and interaction by giving learners spaces to respond to one another’s ideas in discussion forums, breakout rooms, and similar formats.
