The Challenge
Brothers Gutters needed a scalable, engaging training solution to support its expanding franchise network
With 100 corporate employees and 100+ franchisees across the United States, Brothers Gutters needed a training solution that could grow with them. Its Learning and Development team, led by Laura Basili, develops training on compliance, sales, franchisee onboarding, leadership, client relations, installer professionalism, career progression, and more.
At first, training relied on comprehensive—but often dry—manuals. “The tone of a course matters,” Basili explains. “Regardless of the industry, stuffy training doesn’t work.” Compounding the issue, franchisees needed training in multiple languages, making a one-size-fits-all approach ineffective.
Shifting to e-learning offered a path forward—but came with limitations. “The publishing feature of our old LMS was a challenge, with revisions and updates requiring multiple steps,” says Basili. Field-based learners also struggled with access, making on-the-go training difficult.
To support its growing franchise network, Brothers Gutters needed a comprehensive e-learning platform that enabled the L&D team to create engaging, customizable content, streamline updates, manage distribution to geographically dispersed teams, and remove access barriers for field learners.

Brothers Gutters rolled out Articulate 360 in phases—starting with Rise for its ease of use, then Storyline for interactive customization, and Reach for seamless course distribution. “Articulate 360 is one neat package with everything you need,” says Basili.
With Rise, the team hit the ground running. “It takes us about 30 minutes to get a user fully trained up in Rise,” says Basili. In just 10 months, they built 13 interactive courses and used microlearning courses to turn technical content into digestible learning paths.
For more complex training, the team turns to Storyline. “We have so much fun with Storyline, even when our training is highly technical,” Basili explains. “We can personalize a course and build interactive activities and role-playing scenarios that react to what learners do correctly or incorrectly. It gives learners a break from straight content and helps cement their skills.”
Reach’s built-in translation capabilities also make life simple. “The ability for learners to select their preferred language in the user interface has been incredibly valuable for our franchisees,” Basili says. “It’s truly brilliant.”
When it’s time to share content, distribution is effortless. “Reach cut a 12-step course publishing process down to 1—making updates over 90% faster and saving hours of work every time,” Basili divulges. With single sign-on, learners access training wherever they are. “With Articulate 360, installers and sales team members—known as Solutionsists©—can train in the field, between clients, or whenever they have a break,” Basili adds. Field teams particularly benefit from this on-the-go content. “Microlearning is especially helpful for our Solutionists©, who can brush up on things like taking better photos or reading diagrams in the field.”
Today, Brothers Gutters offers a robust training portfolio, including a microlearning compliance series called Bro Bites, an extended skills ladder, and a two-week gutter boot camp with daily videos. The result? Learners gain real-world skills through immersive, engaging instruction. “We use Articulate 360 to ensure that learners aren’t just reading about topics—they’re building those skills through interaction,” Basili says.

Since we migrated, our Articulate training has close to 100% usage across the 100+ franchises. And learner feedback is nothing but positive,” says Basili.
Behind the scenes, course creation is more rewarding, too. “My goal is for learners to have fun—but I’m also having fun when creating,” Basili shares. “I feel proud of what I create. I’m not a professional designer, but I sometimes feel like I am with Articulate.”
Learners also benefit from smoother access and better experiences. “We used to have glitches where learners would get stuck and couldn’t access the training. We don’t have that anymore with Reach,” Basili says. And when feedback comes in, the team can act on it quickly. “If learners have suggestions, we can make changes easily because of the tools Articulate 360 provides,” she adds.
Most importantly, the training is opening doors. “If someone wants to become a field supervisor or move into sales, we provide tailored training to support that path,” says Basili.
