The Challenge

Netsmart needed a scalable, flexible, and cost-effective way to educate employees and clients on demand

Equipping clients and employees with the most current version of Netsmart’s solutions has always been integral. However, in recent years, Netsmart found that traditional training methods were no longer sufficient to keep clients and employees up-to-date on its ever-expanding software suite. 

Netsmart’s learning audiences required training that would seamlessly fit into their busy schedules. Most importantly, staff needed to be able to complete this training at their own pace and access materials from various devices, 24/7. 

Netsmart sought an e-learning solution that would allow the team to develop and implement on-demand training in a more cost-effective and efficient way than traditional instructor-led training would allow. Reducing time clients and staff spent away from their care delivery roles was also crucial to maximize cost savings.

The Answer

To address these needs, Netsmart developed engaging online courses for a variety of onboarding and everboarding use cases with Rise and Storyline. For example, the Netsmart team created digitized solution onboarding courses for new hires and clients about the Netsmart solution portfolio, workflows, and industry acumen. Scenario-based learning and interactive knowledge checks empowered learners to practice their new skills in a low-risk environment, while short how-to videos and other interactive elements enhanced learner engagement. 

In addition to these solution onboarding courses, Netsmart leveraged Articulate 360 to develop ongoing professional development opportunities, fostering a culture of continuous learning. To accomplish this, the organization built microlearning courses targeting specific skills and knowledge gaps, enabling clients and employees alike to upskill on-demand.

To streamline course development, Netsmart leverages Articulate’s built-in AI tools to create interactive courses faster. With Articulate’s AI Assistant, the Netsmart team can easily generate images and transform text into dynamic elements, such as virtual flashcard interactions. These AI capabilities create more visually-rich, engaging courses that reinforce key concepts.

“By leveraging AI Assistant, development timelines are 33% faster, accelerating the way we produce and distribute educational content,” says Heather DelaCruz, e-learning developer at Netsmart. She finds the tool particularly helpful in generating quiz questions. “Correct answers are easy to come up with, but feasible incorrect answers are harder. With AI Assistant, I can quickly draft questions and answers based on lesson materials, and the quality is exceptional.”  

Recently, Netsmart needed to develop a custom e-learning academy for a large client with over 2,000 staff members. The client needed to upskill their staff with regard to new regulations and workflows to maximize their adoption and use of Netsmart solutions. Traditional instructor-led training would have been too time-consuming and inefficient for their tight timeline of just a few weeks. They needed an e-learning solution that was not only fast-acting and scalable, but also engaging and effective.

Using Articulate 360, Netsmart’s team of instructional designers and content developers created a comprehensive training program of over 50 courses in less than seven weeks. To ensure the learning experience was both immersive and impactful, the team wove interactive modules, quizzes, and simulations into the course content experience. 

The custom e-learning academy was a resounding success. Client feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many staff members praising the clarity and relevance of the material. Several members of the client’s education staff described the training as “the best they had ever seen,” highlighting the program’s ability to convey complex information in an easily digestible format while keeping learners engaged throughout.

While this project and its learning delivery is ongoing, the completed first phase serves as a testament to Netsmart’s ability to deliver exceptional e-learning experiences at scale. By partnering with Netsmart, the client was able to achieve their training goals swiftly and efficiently, demonstrating the incredible power of on-demand digitized learning.

After implementing several training workstreams with Articulate, Netsmart saw improvements across key areas of the business. Offering more flexibility through e-learning led to increased training completion rates, with more clients and company associates engaging with the content and successfully passing assessments. 

The Netsmart online learning experiences also increased knowledge retention, indicated by improved post-training assessments compared to previous classroom-based training methods. This underscored the value of providing learners with interactive content and immediate feedback. 

Finally, Netsmart realized significant cost-savings thanks to the rapid course development capabilities of Articulate tools.  This allowed them to reduce SME dependency time with costly resources and reduce overall training costs by providing on-demand, digitized assets available to learners 24/7. 

Pairing Articulate’s AI Assistant with Rise has reduced Netsmart’s time spent developing courses by approximately 20%. For example, previously, development time for a general navigation course was 120 hours. This decreased to 96 hours with AI Assistant, saving 24 hours per course. This efficiency enables developers to deliver more courses within the same time frame.

Using Articulate’s AI Assistant with Rise has also improved course development productivity. For instance, developers were able to produce 20% more courses in a given period while saving an average of 24 hours per course. This efficiency leads to faster course delivery, enhancing overall productivity without sacrificing quality.
