Microsoft Defender SmartScreen Prevents Articulate 360 from Installing

You might see a Microsoft Defender SmartScreen warning when installing the January 2021 update for the Articulate 360 desktop app. Here's why and what to do about it.

Why did it happen?

Microsoft Defender SmartScreen relies on app reputation scores to decide if software is good or bad. If an app is on a blocklist or hasn't yet established a reputation of trust, SmartScreen prevents it from installing and asks you to make a decision about allowing it to run.

In January 2021, we updated the certificate we use to sign Articulate software, and it takes time to build up a trust score for a new certificate. As a result, you could see a SmartScreen warning while reputation grows for our new certificate.

What should I do about it?

If you see a SmartScreen warning, as shown below, when installing Articulate 360, click More info to reveal the app name, the app publisher, and an option to install the app.

In this case, the app is articulate-360.exe, and the publisher is Articulate Global, Inc. It's safe to install Articulate 360. Click Run anyway to complete the installation.
