When you set the Finish button action on your quiz result slide to Close browser window, you may find that it doesn't always close the browser as expected. See the following reasons and solutions.

Viewing in Firefox

Unfortunately, Firefox security restrictions prevent windows from closing themselves, so the Finish button won't work properly. To work around this issue, configure your quiz to launch in a new window. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Home tab on the Quizmaker ribbon, and click Player.
  2. When the Player Properties window opens, click the Other tab on the ribbon.
  3. Mark the box to Launch player in new window.
  4. Click OK.

This sets your quiz to launch in a new window and allows the Finish button close the window as expected.

Mobile Safari in iOS 8

With the release of iOS 8, Apple no longer allows code to close mobile Safari browser tabs. As a result, the Finish button in Quizmaker quizzes won't close the browser. Learners will need to close the browser tab to exit the quiz if they're using an iPad or iPhone running iOS 8.

Local Content

The Finish button may not work as expected when viewing content on your local hard drive due to security restrictions in the local computer, Adobe Flash Player, and the browser.

If you'll be hosting your quiz online, upload your published quiz to a web server or LMS for testing. To view your quiz locally, publish for CD, then launch it via the Launch_Quiz.exe file.

Web Links

If you launch your quiz from a web page via a hyperlink to the quiz.html file in the published output, we recommend configuring the hyperlink to open in a new tab or window. Just add the target attribute to your HTML link so it resembles the following example:

<a href="http://www.myserver.com/mycourse/quiz.html" target="_blank">Link to My Course</a>

By launching your links in a new tab or window, you'll avoid browser security restrictions that may prevent the Finish button from working properly.
