george! addin for PowerPoint prevents Presenter ’09 from activating

If you are using the george! addin for PowerPoint, you may find that you are never prompted to activate Presenter ’09, and the communication between Presenter and Quizmaker / Engage may not function properly.

To activate and use Presenter, you will need to disable the george! addin. (You can re-enable the george! addin when Presenter is not in use.) Here’s how to disable the george! addin:

PowerPoint 2010

  1. In PowerPoint, go to the File tab, and select Options.
  2. Select the Add-Ins tab on the left side of the window.
  3. Use the Manage drop-down list at the bottom of the window to select COM Add-ins, and click the Go button.
  4. Deselect the check box for george!.
  5. Click the OK button.
  6. Close PowerPoint for the change to take effect.
  7. Open PowerPoint again, and activate Presenter when prompted.

PowerPoint 2007

  1. In PowerPoint, go to the round Microsoft Office button in the upper left corner, and select PowerPoint Options.
  2. Select the Add-Ins tab on the left side of the window.
  3. Use the Manage drop-down list at the bottom of the window to select COM Add-ins, and click the Go button.
  4. Deselect the check box for george!.
  5. Click the OK button.
  6. Close PowerPoint for the change to take effect.
  7. Open PowerPoint again, and activate Presenter when prompted.
