Engage '13: How to Upgrade an Interaction
Article Last Updated
This article applies to:
It's easy to upgrade an Articulate Engage '09 interaction to Articulate Engage '13. Just double-click the interaction file to open it. You'll be prompted to upgrade. Click Yes. That's it!
Differences you'll notice after upgrading
Authoring:
- Interactions have been redesigned with a new, modern look. The upgrade process shouldn't adversely affect your content, but you may find that you need to tweak your font size or formatting, depending on the layout.
- Community interactions (Flashcards, Flipbook, Stairstep, etc.) will be converted to Process interactions.
- Flash files no longer have an option to open in a new window. They'll always be embedded.
Customizing the player:
- We've streamlined and unified the player in Articulate Studio '13. As a result, upgraded interactions will use the default player in Engage '13. To customize the new player after upgrading, see this tutorial.
- You can now force interactions to always resume without prompting learners.
Publishing:
- Reporting and tracking options will reset to their defaults. You'll need to reassign them after upgrading.
- Transparency behind interactions in Articulate Presenter isn't currently supported. The slide background color from the Presenter player will show around embedded interactions. To change this color, see Publishing an Interaction to Articulate Presenter.
- You can publish to Flash, HTML5, and the Articulate Mobile Player app. Learn more here.
- Publishing is up to five times faster.

Need to go back to the original interaction file?
A backup copy of your original interaction file will be created during the upgrade process, so you can always go back to it later if necessary.
