Storyline 2: Modifying the Default Caption Labels for Screen Recordings

Modifying the default caption labels for screen recordings isn't currently supported. Caption labels refer to the action words associated with events in your screen recordings, such as "Click and drag..."

Here are two options for editing caption labels.

Edit Captions After Recording

Modify the captions and the text they contain in the resulting step-by-step slides after you've completed your screen recording.

Modify the ActionDescriptions.xml File Before Recording

You may be able to modify the default caption labels before recording a screencast by editing the ActionDescriptions.xml file in your Articulate program files. However, please note that we don't officially support this method.

The ActionDescriptions.xml file is located in the following folder, depending on your version of Windows:

  • 32-bit Windows:
    C:\Program Files\Articulate\Articulate Storyline 2\Content
  • 64-bit Windows:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Articulate\Articulate Storyline 2\Content

To modify the ActionDescriptions.xml file, open it with a text editor, such as Notepad, and save your changes when you're done.
