Storyline: Only One Slide Is Added When Inserting Step-By-Step Screen Recordings

If only one slide gets created when you insert a step-by-step screen recording, it might mean Storyline and the app you're recording have different permissions.

For example, let's say you're using Storyline to record a process in Microsoft Excel. If Excel is configured to run as an administrator and Storyline isn't—or vice versa—your screen recording might be incomplete.

Make sure both apps have the same permissions. Here's how to check your Storyline permissions.

  1. Go to your Storyline program folder. The location depends on your versions of Storyline and Windows.

    Storyline Version

    Program Folder

    Storyline 360

    32-bit Windows: C:\Program Files\Articulate\360\Storyline

    64-bit Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Articulate\360\Storyline

    Storyline 3

    32-bit Windows: C:\Program Files\Articulate\Storyline 3

    64-bit Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Articulate\Storyline 3

  2. Right-click Storyline.exe and choose Properties.
  3. Select the Compatibility tab.
  4. If the box is marked to Run this program as an administrator, make sure the same box is marked for the app you're recording. If it's unchecked, make sure it's also unchecked for the app you're recording.

Note: If you changed the default installation directory for Storyline 360, look for Articulate\360\Storyline in your custom install folder.

If the issue persists, reboot your computer to resolve the permissions conflict, and then try again. Let us know if you need help.
