"Session has expired" message when viewing Tin Can API content

You may encounter the following error message when attempting to view an LMS course that reports via Tin Can API:

Session has expired: Relaunch your course to view it.

This will happen in the following scenarios:

  • The authentication token provided by the LMS for the content item has expired.
  • Or, the server is rejecting posts with a 401 error.

To correct this issue, launch the course again from your LMS. If it persists, contact your LMS provider for assistance.
