Text in an ungrouped SmartArt Graphic is doubled

If you ungroup a SmartArt Graphic in PowerPoint 2007 or 2010, you may find that the text in each object is doubled when you publish with Presenter '09, so that it appears blurry, fuzzy, or shadowed.

[To ungroup a SmartArt Graphic in PowerPoint, right-click the bounding box for the SmartArt Graphic, scroll to Group, and select Ungroup. You need to perform this process twice to actually ungroup the individual objects that comprise the SmartArt Graphic.]

This is a known issue.  You can correct it, using either of the following methods:

  • If any of the objects are animated:  Select each of the objects that contain text.  Navigate to Format > Edit Shape > Change Shape, and select a shape (you can select the same shape that is currently applied to the object).  Republish.
  • If none of the objects are animated:  Select all the objects that contain text, and group them (right-click, scroll to Group, and select Group).  Republish.
