Unable to initialize XML Scripting Engine in Presenter '09

If you receive an error that you are unable to initialize XML Scripting Engine, please do the following, depending on your operating system:

Windows 8

  1. Close all programs.
  2. Press Windows Key+X on your keyboard to display the Tools Menu, and select Command Prompt (Admin). Or, right-click the lower left corner of your monitor to display the Tools Menu, and select Command Prompt (Admin).
  3. In the black Command Prompt window that appears, type cd.. (including the two dots after cd) and press the Enter key.
  4. Then type the following line of text, and press the Enter key:

    regsvr32.exe “C:\Windows\System32\scrrun.dll”
  5. You should receive a message stating that the registration has succeeded. Click OK to acknowledge the message.

If you're using a 64-bit version of Windows 8, you'll also need to do the following (in addition to the steps above):

  1. Close all programs.
  2. Press Windows Key+X on your keyboard to display the Tools Menu, and select Command Prompt (Admin). Or, right-click the lower left corner of your monitor to display the Tools Menu, and select Command Prompt (Admin).
  3. In the black Command Prompt window that appears, type cd.. (including the two dots after cd) and press the Enter key.

  5. You should receive a message stating that the registration has succeeded. Click OK to acknowledge the message.

Windows 7 or Windows Vista

  1. Close all programs.
  2. Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories.
  3. Right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.
  4. In the black Command Prompt window that appears, type cd.. (including the two dots after cd) and press the Enter key.
  5. Then type the following line of text, and press the Enter key:

    regsvr32.exe “C:\Windows\System32\scrrun.dll”
  6. You should receive a message stating that the registration has succeeded. Click OK to acknowledge the message.

If you're using a 64-bit version of Windows 7 or Windows Vista, you'll also need to do the following (in addition to the steps above):

  1. Close all programs.
  2. Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories.
  3. Right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.
  4. In the black Command Prompt window that appears, type cd.. (including the two dots after cd) and press the Enter key.
  5. Then type the following line of text, and press the Enter key:

    regsvr32.exe “C:\Windows\SysWow64\scrrun.dll”
  6. You should receive a message stating that the registration has succeeded. Click OK to acknowledge the message.

Windows XP or Windows 2000

  1. Close all programs.
  2. Go to Start > Run.
  3. Copy and paste the following line of text into the Run dialog, and click the OK button:

    regsvr32.exe “C:\Windows\System32\scrrun.dll”
  4. You should receive a message stating that the registration has succeeded. Click OK to acknowledge the message.

If you're using a 64-bit version of Windows XP, you'll also need to do the following (in addition to the steps above):

  1. Close all programs.
  2. Go to Start > Run.
  3. Copy and paste the following line of text into the Run dialog, and click the OK button:

    regsvr32.exe “C:\Windows\SysWow64\scrrun.dll”
  4. You should receive a message stating that the registration has succeeded. Click OK to acknowledge the message.
