Information we collect and how we use it

We collect information about our web visitors and customers to help us understand what kind of apps, features, and content are most useful. You can learn more about how we safeguard your information in our Trust Center.

Here are the kinds of information we collect

Profile info

We collect information about you when you register with Articulate for an Articulate ID, create or modify your online account, access and use Articulate services, participate in a survey, contest, or event, make a purchase, apply for a job, request customer support, communicate with us via third-party social media sites, or otherwise communicate with us.

The types of information we may collect directly from you include your name, username, email address, avatar, postal address, phone number, employer’s name, transactional information (including services purchased or subscribed to and billing address) as well as any contact or other information you choose to provide.

Please be aware that the information you choose to provide in your Articulate ID profile may reveal information that is not expressly stated (for example, if you choose to provide your picture, your picture may reveal your gender).

Web behavior info

We log information about you when you access and use Articulate services, including your Internet Protocol (IP) address, access times, browser type and language, Internet Service Provider (ISP), the web pages that you visit, behavior during the visit, the content you use, and the URL of the web page you visited before navigating to Articulate services.

If you access Articulate services from a mobile device, we collect information about the device, including the hardware model, operating system and version, unique device identifiers, mobile network information (as allowed by the mobile network), or platform information (as allowed by the specific platform type). We do not ask for, access, or track any location-based information from your mobile device at any time while you are downloading or using our mobile apps.

We also store the files or other information that you upload or provide to Articulate 360 (“Content”) as part of your subscription.

We may use the information we collect about you for a variety of purposes, including to:

Operate our services

We use the information we collect about you to provide, operate, maintain, and improve Articulate services. We also use this information to help you use Articulate services, including uploading, downloading, collaborating on, and sharing content, as well as delivering emails on your behalf, such as sending emails to your collaborators when you comment in Articulate Review.

We also use information about you to provide and deliver the services and features you request, to process and complete transactions, and to send you related information, including purchase confirmations and invoices.

There are some tracking cookies we use to power the basic functionality of our website. If you’d like to visit our website, we require these types of cookies:

  • Session and locale cookies: We use these cookies to ensure you stay logged in when you visit different pages on our site, and to serve you pages in the right language. These cookies expire automatically.
  • Web chat: We use a cookie to power our support and sales web chats.
  • Articulate Online: If you visit or use Articulate Online, we set specific session cookies. We set these cookies only for visitors to Articulate Online domains.
  • Spam prevention: We use Clearbit and Akismet to filter out likely spammers from our site. When you fill out forms, we’ll share your email and IP address with these apps.
Communicate with you

We also use the information we collect about you to send you technical notices, updates, security alerts, and support and administrative messages. We’ll also use that information to communicate with you about services, features, surveys, newsletters, offers, promotions, contests, and events, as well as provide other news or information about Articulate and our select partners.

Of course, we’ll also use your information to respond to your comments, questions, and requests, provide customer service and support, and deliver contest entries and rewards.

Protect our services

We also use information about our users to investigate and prevent fraudulent transactions, unauthorized access to Articulate services, and other illegal activities.

Improve our apps and services

If you’re an Articulate 360, perpetual product, or Articulate Online customer or trialer, we track what apps you use and some of the features that you use when you’re using those apps. We may also track information about the websites you visit, the sizes and names of the files or folders you upload, download, share, or access while using Articulate services, the content you access, and any actions taken in connection with the access and use of your content in the Articulate services.

This app usage information helps inform our product development. We also use this information to send you targeted content to support you in using our apps.

Personalize our website and communication with you

We place cookies in your browser that help us see what pages you view on our site and any actions you take. That helps us develop helpful content and serve you customized web content and communication that best meets your needs. Here is a full list of our cookies.

Help you use our services

If you’re an Articulate 360 customer, we analyze your product usage information to see how you’re doing with our apps and resources. We use customer profiles to prioritize outreach from our team, send you helpful information, and guide us in creating content to help customers make the most of their subscriptions.

Advertise to you

When you’ve visited our site, we place a tracking pixel in your browser that helps us show you targeted ads on other sites you visit. We do not do this with European Union-based visitors.

Processing

By accessing or using Articulate services or otherwise providing information to us, you consent to the processing and transfer of information in and to the U.S. and other countries and territories, which may have different privacy laws from your country of residence. Please refer to our Privacy Policy, including the Privacy Shield notice, for more information.

How we protect your data

We will not share personal information about you or any content with any third parties except as described in our Privacy Policy and below.

We may share your information with third-party vendors, consultants, and other service providers working on our behalf and requiring access to your information to carry out that work, such as to process billing and provide customer support.

We may disclose your information to a third party if (a) we believe that disclosure is reasonably necessary to comply with any applicable law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, (b) to enforce our agreements, policies, and Terms of Service, (c) to protect the security or integrity of Articulate services, (d) to protect Articulate, our customers, or the public from harm or illegal activities, or (e) to respond to an emergency which we believe in good faith requires us to disclose information to assist in preventing the death or serious bodily injury of any person. We may also share aggregated or anonymized information that does not directly identify you with third parties.

We may share or transfer your information in connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of company assets, financing, or acquisition of all or a portion of our business to another company.
