How to Upgrade an Interaction to Engage 360

We made it super easy to upgrade an Engage ‘09 or Engage ‘13 interaction to Engage 360. Just double-click the project file (i.e., the *.intr file) to open it, then click Upgrade when prompted to upgrade the project.

Your interaction will be upgraded automatically, and a backup copy of the original project file will be created in case you need to go back to it later. (Engage 360 projects can't be opened or edited with previous versions of Engage.)

For the most part, your upgraded interaction will look and behave as it did previously. However, there will be some differences due to software improvements. This table defines the changes you may see:

Standard Player

Engage ‘09 always uses the standard player.

Engage ‘13 always uses the standard player.

We rebuilt and streamlined the standard player for Engage ‘13. As a result, you’ll need to reconfigure your player settings after upgrading interactions.

Engage 360 uses the standard player on desktop and laptop computers.

If you’re upgrading from Engage ‘09, you’ll need to reconfigure your player settings in upgraded interactions.

Right-to-Left Player Elements

Not applicable.

Previous and next buttons switch positions to give learners a more intuitive experience, but other player elements remain the same.

HTML5 Gestures

YouTube Videos

Not applicable.

Originally, Engage ‘13 supported YouTube website videos.

In May 2015, Google made a change to the YouTube API that now prevents YouTube videos from being added to Engage ‘13. However, YouTube videos added before May 2015 continue to work and will upgrade to Engage 360—with a few changes in behavior. Details here.

Engage 360 supports YouTube website videos.

We no longer use Google’s YouTube API for website videos, so you’ll notice some changes in behavior when upgrading from Engage ‘13. Details here.

Flash Movies

Flash movies can either be embedded in the interaction or play in a new window.

Community interactions were custom interactions built by members of the Articulate community.

Community interactions are supported in Engage ‘09.

When you publish an Engage ‘09 interaction for LMS, you can set reporting and tracking options.
