Storyline 1: Modifying the Default Caption Labels for Screen Recordings

Article Last Updated

This article applies to:

Modifying the default caption labels for screen recordings in Storyline is not currently supported. This refers to the action words that are automatically associated with events in your screen recordings, such as "Click and drag..."

Here are two options:

Edit captions after recording

One option is to modify the captions and the text they contain in the resulting step-by-step slides after you've completed your screen recording.

Modify the ActionDescriptions.xml file

You may be able to modify the default caption labels by making the necessary modifications to the ActionDescriptions.xml file in your Articulate program files. Please note, however, that this method is not officially supported by Articulate, and it's recommended that you make a backup copy of the ActionDescriptions.xml file before you modify it.

The ActionDescriptions.xml file is located in the following directory, depending on your version of Windows:

  • 32-bit Windows:
    C:\Program Files\Articulate\Articulate Storyline\Content
  • 64-bit Windows:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Articulate\Articulate Storyline\Content

To modify the ActionDescriptions.xml file, open it with a text editor, such as Notepad, and be sure to save your changes when you're done.
