Using the Toolbar

Use the toolbar to edit your video and publish it to Flash Video (.FLV).

The following options are available on the Video Encoder ’09 toolbar:

Edit

  • Trim: Use the trim feature to adjust the start and end time of the video in your published version. To trim your video:
    1. Click the Trim button and you’ll see gray bars appear at the start and end of your video.
    2. Click and drag the red line along the timeline to the point on the timeline where you want your published video to begin.
    3. Click and drag the white line along the timeline to the point on the timeline where you want your published video to end.
    4. Your Trim Start, Trim End, and Trim Duration values will be noted in the lower right-hand corner.
    5. When you publish to Flash Video, you’ll see your trimmed video reflected in the final version.

  • Crop: Use the crop feature to adjust the height and width of the video. To crop your video:
    1. Click the Crop button and you’ll see a crop selection window overlayed your video.
    2. Click and drag the crop selection window to specify the desired dimensions of your cropped video.
    3. Click and drag the window to a desired location within your video if you only want to publish one area of your video.
    4. Your Crop dimension values will be noted in the lower right-hand corner.
    5. When you publish to Flash Video, you’ll see your cropped video reflected in the final version.

  • Volume: Use the volume button to increase or decrease the volume of the video.  [Video Tutorial]  To change the volume of your video:
    1. Click the Volume button.
    2. In the Change Volume dialog, use the slider to Increase or decrease volume by X%. The value range is from -100% to 300% of source volume.
    3. Click OK to save the volume change, or Cancel to exit without saving.

Adjust

  • Brightness: Specify a whole integer value (or use the up and down arrows) to adjust the brightness of your video. The value range is from -100% to 100%.
  • Contrast: Specify a whole integer value (or use the up and down arrows) to adjust the contrast of your video. The value range is from -100% to 100%.

Logo

  • Insert Logo: You can add a logo or watermark image to your video. To add a logo:
    1. Click the Insert Logo button.
    2. Select the image file you want to insert. Supported file types include the following:
      • .PNG
      • .JPEG
      • .JPG
      • .GIF
      • .BMP
    3. Click Open to insert the logo, or Cancel to exit without inserting a logo. Note that you can only have one logo per video.
    4. Specify the size and placement of your logo on top of your video (note that if you are also cropping your video, you should ensure that your logo is within the specified crop area, or it will not appear in the published output).
    5. When you publish to Flash Video, you’ll see your logo reflected in the specified location in the final version.
  • Remove Logo: Click the Remove Logo button to remove your inserted logo.
  • Transparency: Specify a whole integer value (or use the up and down arrows) to adjust the transparency of your logo. The value range is from 0% to 100%.

Video

  • Change Video: Click the Change Video button to locate a new video on your computer to work with in Video Encoder ’09.
  • Reset Video: Click the Reset Video button to reset your video to its source. Clicking this option will reset all trim, crop, brightness, contrast, and logo settings. You will not be prompted to confirm.
